Climate

Climate change can feel a little abstract; something that happens to the polar ice caps, or to distant coral reefs. But you can see the climate changing in weather station data. The chart below shows the average annual temaperature for a weather station in Paris. Over the last fifty years the average temperature has increasing from about 10°C in 1970 to 13°C today. That's an increase of +3°C over the last fity years.

Actuals Trendline

We can map how climate has changed across the whole world. The chart below divides the world's land mass into 170 pixels (each 10°x10°) and shows the average temperature increase since 1970 for a typical weather station within each pixel. It shows that the average temerapture has increased by more than +1.5°C across much of the world's land mass, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere.

These pattterns of climate change derived from the weather station data are consistent with those produced by satellite-based climate monitoring systems such as Copernicus.
